Houses For Hope

Meeting Residential Needs
The goal of Houses for Hope is to alleviate the problems of finding affordable handicap-accessible homes for people with physical living constraints.

History
Houses for Hope began after discovering the struggles the Residential Services department was experiencing in trying to acquire affordable handicap accessible homes in the area. Up until now, Dawn of Hope has been faced with adding ramps, widening doorways and modifying showers to adapt the rental homes to the need of current service recipients.

On May 30, 2006 a Groundbreaking Ceremony was held to mark a new era at Dawn of Hope, Inc. The first Houses for Hope project consisted of two homes being constructed in Carter County. Each home featured three bedrooms, two full baths and a double garage. The homes are equipped with wide doorways and ramps to accommodate wheelchairs.

Phase II Complete!
The Foundation has completed building six homes
located in Unicoi County and all feature three bedrooms, two full baths and have no more than three individuals living in each home.  Funding for the construction of these homes was through a grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Authority and the Dawn of Hope Foundation.

Phase III – to begin in 2019!
Dawn of Hope is currently seeking to raise $200,000 in donations to begin Phase III of Houses for Hope which will entail the building of 5 more handicap accessible homes.
